D-Mannose Plus is a valuable aid in preventing and counteracting urinary tract infections (UTIs) such as cystitis because it encompasses two main anti-adhesion agents, D-mannose and Cranberry, combined with Vitamin C.
D-mannose is a simple sugar that interferes with the adhesion of E. coli fimbriate bacterium type 1, competitively inhibiting its rooting to uroepithelial cells; this molecule binds to the bacteria, displacing them from their binding sites by carrying them into the urinary stream where they are subsequently destroyed by physiological defense mechanisms.
The mechanism of action of D-mannose combines with the action of cranberry proanthocyanides (PACs), which, on the other hand, block the adhesion of E. coli P-fimbriates by binding to galactoside residues on the surface of uroepithelial cells.
