Essential Oils for a Restful Night's Sleep

There are times in life when, for one reason or another, it’s hard to fall asleep.
You toss and turn in bed, unable to get a wink of sleep for hours on end. But there are natural remedies to help you sleep better: today we’re talking about essential oils touse for insomnia.

Why can't I fall asleep?

There can be various causes for so-called “ sleepless nights.”

First and foremost are certainly stress and mental rumination, which lead us to constantly replay the same thought in an endless loop. But even a state of intense physical agitation can affect the quality of our sleep; it has been shown that an excessive amount of adrenaline in the bloodstream prevents us from relaxing our bodies—and thus from falling asleep.
Finally, we must always takediet into account: serotonin and melatonin are influenced by gut health and are essential for proper sleep regulation.

Of course, to permanently resolve insomnia, you need to address the root cause, but essential oils can be a valuable aid in the meantime. What’s more , they have the advantage of providing an immediate and long-lasting effect;this is because, by traveling through the olfactory system, they act directly on the hypothalamus and the pituitary gland (glands that produce and release hormones in our body).

Lemon Balm, Lavender, Cedar, and Orange.

Essential oils can be used in various ways.
You can use a room diffuser or a specific essential oil burner, or you can add a few drops to hot bath water. The general recommendation is to dilute them, as they are highly concentrated.

Lemon Balm: Lemon balm essential oil is excellent for relieving stress or muscle tension, as it acts on the limbic system with neuro-relaxing effects.

Lavender: thequeen of essential oils, excellent for calming the mind and promoting sleep. Lavender oil can also be applied directly to the body. Simply dab a few drops on your neck and wrists.

Cedar: a scent that is both woody and comforting. Studies have shown that cedar oil can lower blood pressure and heart rate.

Bitter orange:This oil, with its citrusy notes, soothes the nerves and alleviates stress and anxiety. It’s perfect in a diffuser before bedtime. It also has a soothing effect on breathing, helping with coughs or phlegm.
