Characteristics of glutathione

As we anticipated, Glutathione is produced naturally by our body, particularly by the liver. Its very important task is to protect cells from free radicals produced during the process of toxin elimination.

Just think, whenever we get a little too high or take hard-to-dispose-of drugs, Glutathione does the dirty work. You could say it is a kind of street sweeper that keeps the streets clean of toxic waste.

In its composition, Glutathione combines three peptides (glycine, cysteine, and glutamic acid), and it is this particular chemical union that makes it able to "bait" free radicals. GSH has a very high capacity for oxidation: once it gives up its hydrogen and accepts a negative electron from free radicals, it is then able to reduce itself (and thus regain its antioxidant capacity) through the intervention of a particular enzyme.

This ability of Glutathione to continually regenerate allows it to defend the liver, "immolating" itself, shall we say, in place of proteins or other oxidizable compounds.

Benefits and uses

Taking Glutathione proves most useful in all cases where the liver is overloaded.
It helps not only to protect and detoxify but also to regulate and stimulate the immune response.

It is used in cases of hepatobiliary insufficiency and drug intoxication, but also to protect organs from the side effects of chemo or to improve insulinemic activity in diabetic patients.
