  • IN KEEPING WITH MRS. MARIA TREBEN'S ORIGINAL RECIPE

Some curious uses of Swedish herbal bitters, taken from the ancient manuscript repurposed by Maria Treben, include remedies for various ailments. For toothache, drops are diluted in water or applied directly to the tooth. For ear pain or buzzing, a soaked cotton ball can be inserted into the ear. It is also indicated for fistulas, even tough ones, and for burns from fire, boiling water or grease: applied constantly, it prevents blisters and promotes healing. Rheumatic pains are relieved by taking bitter by mouth or applying it locally. It is also useful against chilblains, by compresses with soaked gauze and held for a few hours. The recommended intake is one teaspoon three times a day, also in combination with external applications.

It can be used both externally (massages, rubs...) and internally (depurative, digestive...). The ancient recipe recommends half a dram a day with the addition of as much pure water.
